The Earth Element

The Earth Element

2 min read

Represented with a downward triangle and a line striking through, Earth reminds us to connect downwards, to look within, and to look behind. It's grounding, protective, and nurturing, but also highly healing and powerful. Think of a protective bear: strong, fearless, connected to the seasons, resourceful, resilient.

Earth is one of the oldest recognised forces in human understanding. The Greeks embodied it in Gaia, the primordial mother who predates the Olympians and is the foundation beneath everything. In Egypt, the Earth was Geb, god of the land, keeper of the dead, source of all living things. Across every tradition, Earth has always meant the same thing: foundation, ancestry, continuity.

When I think of Earth, I think first of trees. The ancient redwoods of America, the sacred Baobab of Africa, my own favourites the Oak, the Willow, and the Mahogany, each rooted in something older than memory. Trees lead me to mountains, and mountains to continents, and how they redirect weather systems, giving us savannahs on one side and rainforests on the other. Dartmoor holds all of this in miniature for me: ancient, diverse, and quietly extraordinary.

Don't forget that even continents move. Don't forget that wood is one of the rarest resources in the known universe.

A powerful teaching in the Earthen element is stillness. Sit in nature and think about a seed growing to a shoot, a sapling, a tree. Think about the life that offers, where it branches, what it shelters. Before you know it, you could have travelled the globe without moving an inch. Our feet connect us to all of it: there are meridians in our soles that send energy throughout the body, and time in nature is known to lower stress. Earth is physical. It's the present and the past, ancestral knowledge and modern adaptation.

If you've been feeling scattered or unmoored, Earth is the antidote. If you're a Fire or Air sign working with this energy, it may feel slow at first. That's the point. Let it slow you down.

Every piece in the Emporos Earth Collection is made from the ground up, literally. The clay in the golems, the oak in the jewellery, the Devon herbs in the potion bottles. Our standout piece for grounding your space is the Golem, Large: Earth. Handcrafted in Devon, moon-bathed, and charged with Sekhem energy, it's the most powerful Earth anchor in the collection.
