Sitting in the south, governed by eight elemental pillars detailed in the Four Elements guide available to download free on the site, Fire is often seen as the spark of creation: that flame within us that pushes us forward, striving for more. If Water is the Sacral Chakra, then Fire is the Solar Plexus, sitting in the stomach, a vortex of lifeforce. But Fire's reach extends far beyond the body.

Few people know that Earth's position in the solar system was determined by a major celestial event known as The Deep Space Impact. This collision pushed Earth into the habitable zone and Mars out of it, and in doing so, separated the Moon from the Earth itself: the Moon was originally part of our planet, broken free by a meteor impact of extraordinary force. The Egyptians, who watched the night sky with remarkable precision, understood each star as a burning flame tethering humanity to its dreams. As much as Fire is the hearth that cooks your food, it's also the burning lights in the night sky that have guided navigation for centuries. That's Fire's first great duality: the intimate and the cosmic, existing at exactly the same time.

This makes Fire a particularly interesting element to work with. It has an incredibly high vibration, sitting within the mind's eye and burning from the shoulders, often seen with embers dancing upward to connect us to the cosmos. But it's also deeply connected to Earth and to our ancestry, directly correlated to human evolution. Fire can be as expansive as the cosmos or as simple as a lit match, and the practice lives somewhere between the two.

At Emporos, we linked Fire to the philosophy of Soul because of this powerful duality. It's the sun above and the sun within. It's our spark and our flame, our passion and our creation. Fire also reveals the shadows within and urges us to face them, to stand in our light rather than be diminished by what we find there.

Historically, Fire has been used for deep transmutation and soul awakening. Think of the burning of sage, resin, or palo santo. The lighting of a candle, or what we in the West call an incense stick, but what was known in the East as a "Stick of the Gods," used originally for invocations. We have burning ceremonies. We celebrate the solstices, with very good reason. In Egypt, Ra and Amun, later merged into Amun-Ra, represented creation and life. Sekhmet held the energy of war and healing simultaneously. Isis brought magic and renewal. Ma'at carried justice and harmony. All solar deities, each tethered to a singular source but directed into different incarnations: a beautiful model for how one element can hold many truths.

When we work with Fire, we often ask it to release us from the past, to help us step into the future, to burn away old cords, and to show us the way in the dark. Like Anubis guiding Sekhmet through the cave for transformation, Fire illuminates what needs to be seen. It's with Fire that we manifest, activate, and empower.

Fire truly is the seat of creation and transformation. Emporos wouldn't be here without the Written in the Stars Tarot, and the tarot wouldn't exist without my husband Paul, who pushed me to finish it. As an Aquarian, trusting the process doesn't come naturally, but I did: I trusted the artwork to flow and take form, trusted Sekhem to reveal itself through the cards, and trusted myself to do justice to practices I have studied and taught for nearly a decade. Creating this deck, and everything that has followed, has been a deep joy and profoundly cathartic. To stand in the fires of creation is to face what you have been carrying: the grief, the shadows, the old stories. And then to transmute them. That is Fire's work, and it is the heart of everything we make.
